NEW version of HGS (March 2024 - Revision 2653)

The HydroGeoSphere Revision 2653 (March 2024) is now available for download.

This month we’ve introduced 2 new exciting features:

  • New channels properties (cprops) command ‘time varying streambed conductivity’ that defines streambed conductivity for a channel zone via a time-value table

  • Add Hydraulic Mixing Cells (HMC) to HGS to track the flow of water from distinct, user-defined sources throughout the model domain

HMC utilizes the hydraulic flow solution of the HGS model, tags any inputs to the model domain as specified by the boundary conditions and then tracks the fraction of these inputs in each of the model cells. In contrast to particle tracking approaches, modified mixing cell approaches such as HMC allow obtaining transient mixing ratios of water from all different sources at every cell within the model without much extra computational cost and postprocessing (Schilling, et al. 2017). We are really excited about this new feature as it should allow our users to gain an even better understanding of the dynamic hydrology of integrated hydrologic models built with HGS.

You can find details about these new features in the HydroGeoSphere Reference Manual. And as always, we are committed to the continued improvement to the user experience. Do you have suggestions for new commands or improvements to the user experience? Send your ideas to support@aquanty.com!

The latest installers are available on the HGS download page and a full list of changes/updates can be found in the release notes.
